      Sunday, April 13, 2003 -

      Richard W. "Buck" Casburn, 78, of Mt. Carmel died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Short Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

      Mr. Casburn was born July 11, 1924, in Graham to Robert F. and Cordie (Ratliff) Casburn. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II on the USS New York. He married Betty Archer Sept. 25, 1944, in Morganfield, Ky. She preceded him in death Nov. 15, 2001. He was a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Elks, all of Mt. Carmel, and a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #204 of Flora, Ill. He was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church of Mt. Carmel. He worked in the oil industry for more than 50 years, most recently as general manager for T.W. George Trust.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard David and Paulette Lucille (Kieffer) Casburn; two brothers, Claud Casburn and Bill Casburn; five sisters, Nelle Goode, Jean Reedy, Louise Sims, Pat Linton and an infant sister, Johnie.

      Survivors include five sons, Thomas Lee Casburn and wife Pam of Findley, Ohio, William E. Casburn and wife Laveta of Allendale, Ill., Timothy Joe Casburn of Mt. Carmel, and Richard Lee Casburn and wife Sara and Joseph Edward Casburn and wife Jenny, all of Allendale; seven grandchildren, April Fisher, Matthew Casburn, Jed Casburn, Brandon Casburn, Cory Casburn, Drew Casburn and Katelyn Casburn; and a great-grandchild, Kaleigh Fisher.

      Richard W. Casburn

      MOUNT CARMEL - Richard W. "Buck" Casburn, 78, died April 9, 2003, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

      He was born July 11, 1924, in Graham, Texas, the son of Robert E. and Cordie (Ratliff) Casburn.

      Mr. Casburn was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific on the battleship, USS New York. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks and life member of the VFW, all in Mount Carmel and a life member of the Masonic Lodge 204 of Flora. He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Mount Carmel.

      He had worked and served in the petroleum industry some 50 years. He was a production superintendent with Indiana Farm Bureau Co-op for 23 years, and six years for the Gallagher Drilling Co. He retired in 1989 as general manager with T.W. George Oil Trust. Mr. Casburn was active with the Illinois Oil & Gas Association, where he had served on the executive board and the board of directors, he was also a member of Tri-State Oil Producers Association.

      He married Betty Archer, September 25, 1944, in Morganfield, Ky. She preceded him in death on November 15, 2001.

      Surviving are five sons, Thomas Lee (Pam) Casburn, Findlay, Ohio, William E. (Laveta) Casburn, Allendale, Timothy Joe Casburn, Mount Carmel, and Richard Lee (Sara) Casburn and Joseph Edward (Jenny) Casburn, all of Allendale; seven grandchildren, April Fisher and Matthew, Jed, Brandon, Cory, Drew and Katelyn Casburn; and a great-grandchild, Kaleigh Fisher.

      Preceding him in death were his parents; wife of 57 years, Betty; son and daughter-in-law, Richard David and Paulette Lucille (Kieffer) Casburn; two brothers, Claud and Bill; five sisters, Nelle Goode, Jean Reedy, Louise Sims, Pat Linton and an infant sister, Johnie.

      Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003, in the chapel of Short Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call today evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral
